Preparation for Colonoscopy:

1. Clear liquid diet the day prior to the examination – broth, Jello, soft drink, tea, black coffee, clear juice.
2. Your colon needs to be cleaned; the doctor will give you a prescription or contact the pharmacy for purgative solution or tablets.
3.  Do not stop taking your medication(s) except those mentioned below. If you are on insulin or diabetes pills, the dose needs to be adjusted.
4. Stop taking blood thinner such as Coumadin, aspirin or Plavix 5 to 7 days before the procedure.
5. Someone will need to take you home after the procedure; it will not be safe for you to drive.
6. Take nothing by mouth after midnight before the procedure.
7. Bring all your medications to the hospital.
