Preparation for Colonoscopy:
- Clear liquid diet the day prior to the examination – broth, Jello, soft drink, tea, black coffee, clear juice.
- Your colon needs to be cleaned; the doctor will give you a prescription or contact the pharmacy for purgative solution or tablets.
- Do not stop taking your medication(s) except those mentioned below. If you are on insulin or diabetes pills, the dose needs to be adjusted.
- Stop taking blood thinner such as Coumadin, aspirin or Plavix 5 to 7 days before the procedure.
- Someone will need to take you home after the procedure; it will not be safe for you to drive.
- Take nothing by mouth after midnight before the procedure.
- Bring all your medications to the hospital.
- Please be on time.
